On June 1, 2016, The Dana Home Foundation awarded its first named grant to honor former Board member Kevin McGuire who stepped down from the Board in November 2015 following twenty years of combined service to the Board of the Dana Home Foundation and its predecessor, the Board of The Dana Home of Lexington. The Kevin McGuire Family Grant was awarded to Minuteman Senior Services.
The following organizations also received Dana Home Foundation program grants this year:
Minuteman Senior Services (Kevin McGuire Family Grant Recipient) - to continue offering the Healthy Connections program in Lexington which provides services to seniors including nutrition programs (Senior Dining Program at the Lexington Senior Center and Meals on Wheels) and health benefits counseling through SHINE, and Healthy Aging programs.
Brookhaven –─ To help fund the Active Aging Wellness Fair for Seniors in early November, 2016
Cary Memorial Library –─ To continue to expand and enrich the library’s selection of materials and programming of interest to seniors
Cooperative Elder Services –─ To continue funding the Lexington Memory Café, providing activities, conversation, educational materials, and refreshments for memory impaired seniors and their caregivers
Daoyin Health Society ─– To help fund scholarships for Lexington seniors attending the Daoyin Health Teaching Program for Seniors, a program that combines unique techniques for both meditation and stretching;
Edinburg Center –─ To help fund the purchase of exercise equipment for use in the Opportunities Psychiatric Day Treatment Program in Lexington
Lexington Chamber Music Center, Inc. ─– To continue funding this ongoing program which presents outreach concerts by Lexington high school students at retirement and nursing homes in Lexington and surrounding communities
Perkins School for the Blind ─- To continue offering the “Thriving with Vision Loss Project,” a Lexington outreach program of the Perkins Braille & Talking Book Library
Power of Flowers –─ To provide funds for a Donor software data management system to support flower therapy and delivery programs in Lexington and the surrounding communities
Supportive Living ,Inc. ─– To provide funds for the Physical Fitness for Elder Stroke Survivors: Proven Benefit, Limited Access Program, to help Lexington seniors improve their physical rehabilitation and fitness following a stroke
Special Needs Arts Program –─ To provide funds for the Sing Along Singers Program at the Lexington Community center to increase participation of senior volunteers and senior special needs participants
Temple Isaiah –─ To fund the purchase of a hearing assist system and devices
Town of Lexington Fire Department – To provide funds to support Life Safety Devises for Seniors including the purchase and installation of fire/smoke detection devices and the purchase of Safety Net tracking system
Town of Lexington, Health and Human Services Department – To help fund its Senior Outreach Services Program, reduced or no cost transportation, Sand for Seniors Program and volunteer coordinator support
Town of Lexington, Recreation and Community Programs Department –─ To continue funding Forever Fit, a program for seniors providing individual and group fitness training sessions and assessments at the Lexington Community Center
