The Dana Home Foundation 2019 Grant Recipients
The Dana Home Foundation distributed over $215,000 in grant money to fund projects that benefit senior residents in Lexington during its sixth annual award ceremony on May 22, 2019 at the Lexington Community Center. The awards included two named grants, one to honor former Board member Kevin McGuire and the other in memory of board member Jim Wong. Kevin stepped down from the Board in November 2015 following twenty years of combined service to
the Board of the Dana Home Foundation and its predecessor, the Board of The Dana Home of Lexington. In addition to holding the office of President of the Board of The Dana Home of Lexington, Kevin also served on the Finance Committee for many years. The Kevin McGuire Family Grant was awarded to Lexington Symphony for its “Symphony for Seniors” program, which will provide complementary tickets and transportation for under-served Lexington Seniors to attend
Lexington Symphony concerts. Jim served on the Board of The Dana Home of Lexington for many years and on the Board of the Dana Home Foundation. Jim was instrumental in developing the current mission and financial endowment of the Dana Home Foundation. The Jim Wong Grant was awarded to Cary Memorial Library “Dana Home Resources for Seniors”, to fund materials and programs for enrichment of senior citizens at the library.

Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter “Spring Research Forum/Lexington Auxiliary Forum” The Grant is to fund access to the “Spring Research Forum” which provides information on recent Alzheimer’s research and fund the creation of an additional research forum in Lexington.
The ARC of Massachusetts “Support Seniors with Autism/Intellectual Disabilities in Lexington Program” The Grant is to continue funding a small scale pilot program exploring the lives of 10 older individuals with Autism or similar profiles living in Lexington or surrounding community.
Brookhaven at Lexington “Lexington Community Senior Wellness Fair”. The Grant is to fund a wellness fair to connect Lexington seniors with resources that support healthy and active aging.
Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston “English as a Second Language” The Grant is to support the “English as a second language program” which is a free service taught by bilingual volunteers for Chinese immigrants, primarily Lexington seniors.
Cooperative Elder Services “LGBT Impact Initiative” The Grant is to fund a program to hire and train staff as well as offer formal support and services to LGBT adults from Lexington.
Foodlink “Capital Campaign Accessibility Project” The Grant is to fund the costs of making Fooklink’s newly purchased building accessible for use of disabled visitors and volunteers.
Lexington Chamber Music Center “Outreach Concert Program” The Grant is to fund the LCMC Outreach Concert Program, which brings high school chamber players into retirement homes, nursing homes, dementia units and hospitals.
Medford Visiting Nurse Association “Visiting Nurse & Community Care Program” The Grant is to support the Medford VNA in developing its Palliative Care Program for seniors in Lexington and surrounding communities.
Minuteman Senior Services “Healthy Connections in Lexington” The Grant is to fund a variety of programs such as the Senior Nutrition Program (including Meals on Wheels, congregate dining and nutrition counseling) and SHINE health benefits counseling.
Monroe Center of the Arts “Model for Arts programming in Memory Care” The Grant is to develop a model of community programming in the arts for seniors with memory impairments.
The Nature Connection “Professional and Family Caregiver Training Sessions” The Grant is to fund expansion of the sensory stimulation and nature-based therapeutic training programs to Lexington seniors and the disabled.
The Perkins School “Thriving with Vision Loss” The Grant is to support the Thriving with Vision Loss program which provides resources for Older Adults with vision loss in Lexington.
Supportive Living, Inc. “Senior Neuro Assist Exercise” The Grant is to continue support of an ongoing fitness program, which engages a small group of disabled seniors and those living with chronic brain injury in an assisted, accessible and affordable fitness program.
Supportive Living, Inc. “SLI Neuro Wellness Center – Annex Renovation” The Grant will provide partial funding for the renovation of 9 Oakland Street for use in SLI’s ongoing Fitness program.
Town of Lexington Fire Department “Lexington Knox Home Box Program” This Grant will fund the purchase and installation of Home Key Lock Boxes for safe access to homes of Lexington Seniors in the event of an emergency.
Town of Lexington Human Services “Senior Outreach, Wellness and Transportation Services and Caregiver Outreach Program” The Grant will continue funding transportation for low-income residents of Lexington and also provide structured resources, financial respite, and professionally facilitated workshops for caregivers.
Town of Lexington Human Services “Mobile Computer Lab” and “Tech Enabled Caregiver Outreach Program” The Grant is to enable the purchase of a Mobile Computer Lab for the Community Center, provide support and instruction for seniors in the use of computer technology and support homebound caregivers.
Town of Lexington Recreation Department “Forever Fit Wellness Program” The Grant is to support the Forever Fit program which is designed to address the physical fitness and wellness needs of Lexington’s senior population.
