The Dana Home Foundation 2018 Grant Recipients
On May 30, 2018, the Dana Home Foundation awarded two named grants, one to honor former Board member Kevin McGuire and the other in memory of board member Jim Wong. Kevin stepped down from the Board in November 2015 following twenty years of combined service to the Board of the Dana Home Foundation and its predecessor, the Board of The Dana Home of Lexington. In addition to holding the office of President of the Board of The Dana Home of Lexington, Kevin also served on the Finance Committee for many years. Jim served on the Board of The Dana Home of Lexington for many years and on the Board of the Dana Home Foundation. Jim was instrumental in developing the current mission of the Dana Home Foundation.
The Kevin McGuire Family Grant was awarded to the Lexington Chamber Music Center to fund the “Outreach Concert Program”, which brings high school chamber players into retirement homes, nursing homes dementia units and hospitals.
The Jim Wong Grant was awarded to the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston to fund the “English as a Second Language” program, which is a free service taught by bilingual volunteers for Chinese immigrants, primarily Lexington seniors.

- The ARC of Massachusetts “Support Seniors with Autism/Intellectual Disabilities in Lexington Program”, the Grant is to continue funding a small scale pilot program exploring the lives of 10 older individuals with Autism or similar profiles living in Lexington or surrounding community.
- Brookhaven at Lexington “Lexington Community Senior Wellness Fair”, the Grant is to fund a wellness fair to connect Lexington seniors with resources that support healthy and active aging.
- Cary Memorial Library “Dana Home Resources for Seniors”, the Grant is to fund materials and programs for enrichment of senior citizens at the library.
- Cooperative Elder Services “Security Refurbishment Project”, the Grant is to fund updating of CESI’s security system to improve safety of cognitively challenged seniors.
- Follen Church “Access For All”, the Grant is to help fund installation of a new elevator in the Church building in East Lexington to improve access for seniors and others with disabilities to the many community programs offered at Follen Church.
- Greater Boston PEFLAG “Reaching Across Generations”, the Grant is to fund a program in Lexington to encourage a dialog between the generations on issues of sexual and gender identity.
- Lexington Historical Society “Depot Sound Absorbing Paneling”, the Grant is to improve acoustics in the Society’s Depot Square building by funding installation of sound absorbing paneling.
- Medford Visiting Nurse Association “Keep Our Seniors Safe Program”, the Grant is to support the Medford VNA in its program to provide outreach and support for seniors living alone at home in Lexington and the surrounding communities.
- Minuteman Senior Services “Healthy Connections in Lexington”, the Grant is to fund a variety of programs such as the Senior Nutrition Program (including Meals on Wheels, congregate dining and nutrition counseling) and SHINE health benefits counseling.
- The Nature Connection “Professional and Family Caregiver Training Sessions”, the Grant is to fund expansion of the sensory stimulation and nature-based therapeutic training programs to Lexington seniors and the disabled.
- The Perkins School “Thriving with Vision Loss”, the Grant is to support the Thriving with Vision Loss program which provides resources for Older Adults with vision loss in Lexington.
- The Power of Flowers Project “Flower Therapy Workshops”, the Grant is to fund expansion of the Flower Therapy workshop which provides workshops for care communities in the greater Boston area.
- Supportive Living, Inc. “Senior Neuro Assist Exercise”, the Grant is to continue support of an ongoing fitness program, which engages a small group of disabled seniors and those living with chronic brain injury in an assisted, accessible and affordable fitness program.
- Town of Lexington Human Services “Senior Outreach, Wellness and Transportation Services”, the Grant is to continue funding for transportation for low-income residents of Lexington.
- Town of Lexington Human Services “Mobile Computer Lab” and “TechEnabled Caregiver Outreach Program”, the Grant is to enable the purchase of a Mobile Computer Lab for the Community Center, provide support and instruction for seniors in the use of computer technology and support homebound caregivers
- Town of Lexington Recreation Department “Forever Fit Wellness Program”, the Grant is to support the Forever Fit program which is designed to address the physical fitness and wellness needs of Lexington’s senior population.
